CLEFT AND CRANIOFACIAL FELLOWSHIP
The Australian Craniofacial Unit, Adelaide has 2 fellowship positions available each year. Fellows will gain a broad experience across all aspects of craniomaxillofacial surgery in both paediatric and adult patients. The fellowship has a strong educational focus with regular audits, aimed at reviewing and improving practice, monthly journal clubs, radiology meetings and protected time for fellow teaching. There will also be opportunities for research and professional development as well as teaching of medical, nursing and allied heath staff. Read more here.
BRISBANE, QLD:
PAEDIATRIC PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY FELLOWSHIP
The Paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery unit at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, Brisbane, Australia has a fellowship post available. The position is for 12 months, starting in either February or August and is open to recently qualified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

The scope of work encompasses cleft lip and palate surgery, craniofacial surgery (including craniosynostosis surgery, microtia reconstruction and facial reanimation), and hand and upper lip surgery. The fellow also covers general plastic surgery on call. It is expected that a research project will be completed during the fellowship.

Our Craniofacial Fellowship is a 12-month clinical position, commencing July 2027, oriented primarily towards cranio-maxillofacial surgery, although a full range of paediatric plastic surgery is covered within the Department. Please note that it is a pre-requisite of the fellowship that applicants are qualified Plastic Surgeons. From a craniofacial standpoint the Department averages approximately 40-50 transcranial cases per year. In addition, there are approximately 60 new cleft cases treated per year at this hospital. The Craniofacial Fellows are encouraged to complete a research project during their tenure with us. These are usually submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. This is a paid fellowship position.

THE ROYAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (RCH) ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP
The next available fellowship will be for February 2027 for either 6 or 12 months. Applications will be open through the Careers page on the RCH website in late February 2026 and will close on 30 June 2026.

The fellowship is a 6 or 12-month clinical position, commencing February 2027, oriented primarily towards the management of paediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Clinical Programme at the Royal Children's Hospital has five maxillofacial surgeons - A/Prof Jocelyn Shand, A/Prof Andrew Heggie, Dr Patrishia Bordbar, Mr Ricky Kumar and Mr Isaac Liau. The fellowship experience encompasses all aspects of paediatric OMS and includes the skeletal management of secondary cleft and craniofacial conditions, traumatic injuries and pathology of the maxillofacial region and orthognathic surgery for developmental facial deformity. Excellent teaching opportunities are also provided by assisting consultants in their private maxillofacial practices. The successful applicant is required to complete a research project during their tenure for submission to a peer review journal. This is a paid fellowship position.

International Fellowships
CANADA, TORONTO:
PAEDIATRIC CRANIOMAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY FELLOWSHIP, THE HOSPITAL FOR SICK CHILDREN
The Craniofacial Program offers a one-year Clinical Fellowship appointment to surgeons who have a special interest in developing a career in Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. The fellowship is under the supervision of the hospital’s Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The Craniomaxillofacial Fellowship is a 12-month fellowship which starts in July of each year, structured to allow the individual to become familiar with all aspects of pediatric craniofacial pathology. The Chief of The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is Dr. John Phillips. The Fellowship program is currently managed by Dr. Christopher Forrest, with attendees including Dr. Phillips, Dr. Johanna Riesel, and Dr. Dale Podolsky. All aspects of pediatric craniomaxillofacial diseases are seen, including craniosynostosis, cleft, vascular anomalies, tumor related conditions, developmental malocclusion and trauma with post-traumatic deformities.

Each year, two Craniofacial Fellowships are offered. There are four operating days per week and two clinic days per week. Candidates who have completed their residency training, whether in North America or outside of North America, are invited to apply for our Craniofacial fellowship program through The SF Match. The Craniofacial Fellow is expected to participate in: on call, teaching responsibilities, participate fully in all surgeries and clinics. It is also expected that the fellow initiates and complete a research project for the 12- month period. Find out more.

TAIWAN, TAIPEI:
DIVISION OF CRANIOFACIAL SURGERY AND RESEARCH
The one-year master program is designed to provide you with advanced training and skills for the management of individuals with malocclusion, dentofacial deformities, cleft lip and palate, and craniofacial anomalies requiring complex multidisciplinary care.
In addition to a weekly craniofacial / cleft conference with other specialists, you will take part in routine interdisciplinary treatment planning and treatment.
You will initiate and complete at least one clinical research project, supervised by craniofacial orthodontic and plastic surgery faculty members. The focus of the research includes dental and craniofacial imaging, biomechanics and tissue engineering. Find out more.

UNITED KINGDOM, BRISTOL:
FELLOW IN CLEFT LIP AND PALATE SURGERY – SOUTH WEST CLEFT SERVICES, BRISTOL
The Bristol Cleft Fellowship will be offered to an Australian doctor to advance their training in all aspects of cleft care.
The aim of the Fellowship is to provide senior trainees with surgical training and research facilities to enable them to take up posts as consultant cleft lip and palate surgeons.

Based at the University Hospital North Bristol and Weston General Hospital (UK), training will range from the management of cleft lip and palate, speech surgery, alveolar bone graft, orthognathic surgery, rhinoplasty and other soft tissue procedures.
​
In addition to hands-on training, important research will also be undertaken in conjunction with The Cleft Collective. The Cleft Collective cohort studies investigates the biological and environmental causes of cleft, best treatments and impact of cleft on patients and their families. Find out more.

UNITED KINGDOM, LIVERPOOL:
ALDER HEY CRANIOFACIAL FELLOWSHIP
The Alder Hey Children’s Craniofacial Fellowship is a 12-month fellowship. The fellowship is designed to deliver a structured program, allowing the individual to become familiar with all aspects of paediatric craniofacial surgery. Doctors trained within neurosurgery, maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery are eligible to apply.

The appointed fellow will be immersed in a hands-on experience and will have the opportunity to integrate in a multi-disciplinary team. All aspects of paediatric craniofacial surgery will be covered: simple and complex craniosynostosis, facial dysmorphisms, encephaloceles, orbital dysostosis, oculo-auricular-vertebral syndrome (craniofacial microsomia), orthognathic planning, facial clefts, microtia, temporo-mandibular disorders. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in theatre activity within the adult sectors for adult craniofacial cases, including cranioplasty, tissue expander insertions, pan-facial trauma, orthognathic surgery. UNITED STATES, SEATTLE:
CRANIOFACIAL SURGERY FELLOWSHIP
The Craniofacial Surgery Fellowship is based on a broad clinical referral base spanning five states. Since 1993, the fellowship program has graduated more than 25 craniofacial surgeons currently practicing in academic and private practice environments. The fellowship educational experience is intrinsically linked to the Craniofacial Center, a 50-member interdisciplinary team with coordinated clinical and academic activities.
​
Graduates of the program have been exposed to diagnosis and perioperative care of a large clinical volume of both pediatric and adult congenital and acquired craniomaxillofacial abnormalities. The goal of the program is to train in all aspects of surgery of the craniofacial skeleton. The fellowship experience is approximately 80% pediatric and 20% adult. Find out more.
